Zipper
PhotoImpact v. X3

This tutorial is not about making a zipper, but using the parts I made to give you some idea of how it can be done to make your own, any way you like.

Download zipper parts here

Parts are in .ufo format and can be changed to any other color if desired.

After unzipping the parts, add 'tooth1.ufo' and tooth2.ufo' to the Stamp function.

Open a new canvas sized to your preference. Using the Stamp, stamp one tooth, then adjust the size in proportion to your image. For this tutorial's screenshots, I used size 15, Spacing 25.

Use these settings:

First we will do the bottom, or closed part of the zipper. Change the Painting mode to Straight line and stamp the first line with tooth1, R/C and Combine as single object, deselect. Repeat with tooth2.

Move the two pieces together, offset from each other, so that the teeth interlock.

Change the Painting mode to Freehand and stamp another line for each tooth. You may have to adjust the spacing, depending on how you make the line of teeth.

Draw a 2D rectangle, then use the Path edit function, adding nodes, to make it follow the direction of the teeth. Repeat for the other side.
Try to make the inside edge go though the thinnest part of the teeth.

When you are satisfied with the results, send each rectangle to the back.

Add the included zipper pull and zipper stops, if desired, or make your own and decorate your zipper to match the color of your image you will use it on.

To make the above image, open two material images. Copy each behind the zipper and use the Eraser to remove part of one image between the open zipper.

I realize that the proportions of the zipper in the screenshots are not exact, but I did this to keep the screenshots as small as possible , but still have the ability to see what was being done. I'm sure you will want to adjust your finished image to the right proportions.
