Make Buttonholes
PhotoImpact v. X3

Here is a quick and easy way to make buttonholes for digital scrapbook pages. The screen shots are much larger than the buttonholes need to be, but they are easily resized.

Open a new document in PI and use the path tools to make rounded rectangles in a color of your choice. I'm using gray just for demonstration purposes.

Move pieces together like so:

Shift/Click each piece, then R/C and merge as a single object.

Go to Photo, Noise, Add Noise:

Use these settings:

Next go to Photo, Blur, Motion Blur>

Choose the upper left box and click OK.

Now use the Airbrush, straight line, size 20.

Paint white lines through the middle of each side.

Switch to a darker color and paint around the edges.

And there is your buttonhole.

An alternative to changing colors is to use the Color Balance function, but be aware this does not work well for all colors

Go to Photo, Color, Color Balance.

Click the Current color box and use the eyedropper to pick the color you want to change. Then click the Desired color box and a color palette will drop down. Choose a new color and watch the Preview box.

Here are some samples I did with the Color Balance.

To use your buttonholes, open the image you will put the buttonhole on, position in place. Activate the material and use the Eraser tool to remove the material behind the center of the buttonhole.

Have fun!
